Frequently Asked Questions

Note : The following information is for guidance only. If there are any doubts then please read your rulebook.

Match Reports

The home team is responsible for supplying the match report and making sure that it is completed and mailed to the league.

The match report should be completed by both clubs before the game starts leaving only the result to be filled in later. The home club should fill in their part first and then hand it to the away club who should return it to the home team once they have entered their details. This was both teams get the opportunity to see a list of players before the game starts.

After the game the home team fills in the result and mails it to John Edmonds to arrive no later than three days after the match referred to.

If you are the away team and you are not presented by the home club with a match report to complete then please ensure that you report this when you phone in the result.

If you are the home team and the away team simply hands over a list of players to you please tell them to complete the report themselves. If the away team does not complete the report please make a note of this on the form before sending it in.

Home clubs not submitting a match report will be fined and both clubs may be fined if the report is not completed correctly.

Remember this is the only record anyone has of the players taking part in the game and could lead to problems if it is not done correctly.

Results

Results must be phoned in by 7pm for Saturday and Sunday games and by 9pm for midweek games. BOTH HOME AND AWAY TEAMS MUST PHONE IN THE RESULT.

Phone to 01633-863713 or email to info@torfaenleague.co.uk or text to 07712 542661

This does not apply to mini-football.

Postponements

If you want to apply for a postponement please make sure you do so in accordance with the rules. The club secretary needs to write to the league secretary or assistant secretary asking for the postponement and send an exact copy of the letter to the secretary of the club you are due to play. The letter needs to arrive with both the league and your opponents 1 week before the date of the game in question.

You cannot ‘agree amongst yourselves’ not to play a game on a particular Saturday and play it later in the season. Games not played on the scheduled day will be treated as broken fixtures.

Remember children tend to go on school trips during the half terms and Easter holidays – these things are not arranged at the last minute they require weeks, if not months, of preparation by the school so there is no excuse for not applying correctly.

There is one easy way of finding out if the players are going to be away – ASK THEM!

Bad Weather

If you call off a game due to inclement weather please make sure you tell your opponents and also phone it in instead of the result.

Sometimes Torfaen Council make a 'blanket' decision to call of all games on their pitches. This used to mean that all games in the league were off but, following an appeal by a member club a couple of years ago, this is not now the case. Some clubs have control of their own pitches and they are responsible for making the decision regarding pitch fitness (See the 'Pitches' page for a list of pitches and who controls them.) Do not assume a game is off without checking with the home team.

Time of Kick off

We operate a flexible policy towards the times that clubs kick off their games. However you must clearly understand that to vary the time both clubs have to agree to it. If you cannot agree then the stipulated time of kick off for all Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16 matches is Saturday at 2.30pm. If a game is not played because one of the teams cannot make it for a 2.30pm kick off then that team will be charged with breaking the fixture.

For cup matches, where we are able to allocate a referee, then the referee must also agree.

If there is not mutual agreement from both teams and a referee, if appointed, then the game must be played at 2.30pm.

Under 12 Division

Teams will play each other TWICE on  a home and away basis.

Under 14 Division

15 teams have entered this season. To accommodate these all teams will play each other once and then the division will be split into smaller sections.

Tesco Under 13 Cup

A number of our under 14 teams enter this competition every year, whilst we are more than happy to support teams in this competition it does play havoc with our league fixtures.

Teams that enter are automatically given permission to postpone their Torfaen League games. Note that it is your responsibility to tell your scheduled Torfaen opponents that the league game is off because of your Tesco cup commitments.

Please ensure that you keep us informed of your progress. The County FA send me details of the draw so I know who is playing when. However once bad weather creeps in and the Tesco cup matches get postponed I have no idea when the games are rearranged etc. Please phone or email me with the details. I can then re-arrange fixtures so that the clubs not in the Tesco cup can be given games.

Communication

I am amazed that clubs and teams just cannot be bothered to communicate effectively. Why is it that teams will not phone in their results on Saturday afternoons? There must be at least 20/30 mobile phones available after every game and yet it seems that getting the results phoned in is more difficult than when the club secretary used to pop round the phone box. So much for the modern society with its sophisticated technology.

I can only assume that some teams just can't be bothered.

It is most frustrating when I get an email from a player or parent complaining that the league table doesn't include their latest result and the reason why is because neither of the two clubs could be bothered to tell me.

I intend issuing fines for teams who do not phone in in future.

Remember to keep the website up to date I need the information and the only place I can get it is from you.

End of Season

Fixtures must be completed on or before 30 April 2011

A & B Teams

Where a club runs two or more teams in the same competitive division the teams are treated as totally separate for registration purposes.

For example : Once registered for the B team a player cannot play for the A team unless he has a formal transfer approved by the league/County FA
